Thank you!

To all my new readers who have joined me today!  Thanks especially to my dear husband, Tom who sent me a lot of traffic. Many thanks also to Mark Sisson who mentioned both Tom, and my blog, in his weekly newsletter.

Thank you for all the great, insightful comments by the many readers we had today. I'm sorry I didn't spell-check the posts, but I didn't think I'd get but more than ten readers when I first started this. And today we hit 1000 views!

Please keep the great ideas and comments coming in. They are really helping me to fight through this not-so-fun phase. We are really looking forward to come out of the haze. Hehe

Good night!

  1. Congrats on your first week. Your headaches sound caffeine related. The good news is, they last less than two weeks, then wallah! gone.

  2. Hi Heather,
Congratulations on going Primal. I've been doing it for a few weeks, and although I lapsed over Christmas, I have found it has done wonders for my health and weight.
If you can, read Nora Gedgaudas - Primal Body, Primal Mind. It is wonderful. I started with Mark's book, which I loved, but Nora's book has me converted. She gives so much great information that makes sense.
She has an amazing recipe which really helps with the sweet tooth - it's full of the great fats that you need (it's the fat that has helped me get over the sugar and carbs). I've changed it a bit, and if you are interested you can have a look here:http://www.angieathome.blogspot.com/2011_11_01_archive.html
I've also got some other recipes in recent posts that you might like.

I haven't fully converted my kids yet (I have a teen daughter who is a little resistant) but I'm working on it - I'll follow your blog with interest.

There are some great paleo/primal blogs out there, but I'm sure you've seen them. So many great ideas and suggestions. I especially love Nom Nom Paleo - loads of great food ideas.

    Best of luck - Angie

  4. Keep up the great work! I am a huge fan of your husband's work and have been Primal for the past five months. Naturally I was very excited when I heard Tom say that his whole family was going to try going Primal. I can really sympathize with how hard it can be to make the transition, especially the part about what to feed the kids. My youngest was on board from the start but convincing my sixteen year old son to stick with it as he suffered from carb flu was a nightmare!

We went through very distinct changes in our eating patterns over time. When we first began our Primal journey we were eating a LOT of food as we were all really hungry. I struggled with what to feed everyone, especially for snacks, but I made sure there was plenty to eat so that we never felt hungry. I think that doing so was the key to our success. I made homemade trail mix with almonds, walnuts, macadamias, dried cranberries and dark chocolate. I also made homemade beef jerky from a recipe I found on marksdailyapple.com. We also did the greek yogurt with berries thing. I would roast chicken or grill burgers the night before to put in lunch boxes. We had really big dinners with double the meat and lots of veggies.

As time went on though I was amazed to find that we started snacking less because we had become fat burners and simply were not as hungry. I can't believe the difference. At this point my husband and I barely snack, and the kids are quite satisfied with a small, high fat snack when they get home from school.

It is a big adjustment but hang in there. This truly has changed our lives. I could give you a laundry list of improvements in our lives including my husband being able to get off of the three different medications he was taking, my "seasonal" depression and insomnia disappearing, and a combined family weight loss of over 50lb. I didn't think that we were overweight to begin with!

Stick with it and know that once your bodies adjust you will look back and be amazed at the difference. You can do it!

  5. Keep it up girl! I am right there with you. I changed to this way of eating 12/26/2011. The Carbflu will pass, it just takes time. I am feeling so much better now. I have your site on my reader, and a blog a follow on my own blog.

  6. I agree that you will get over the headaches and such. I just did a 10 day detox, without caffeine and sugar/grains, etc. The headache was annoying but it went away. Now that my detox is done, my system is reset and I am embarking on the primal journey as well. Good luck to you! There are LOTS of sites with great recipes. I do think you would like Nom Nom Paleo as they have two kids that they include in their chronicles.

  8. Am I the only guy in this comments section? ;)
Oh well.. anyway, keep it up! And keep a weather eye on them bone broth recipes which will help you pull through the period of ketosis.

Here's a quote from // // a great article by Dr Mike Eades, that I'm sure will be worth your while to read:

"Salt your food more. Increasing sodium is just another one of the many counter-intuitive things about low-carb dieting. Just like eating more fat to lower your cholesterol. You’ve got to start thinking differently. The low-carb diet is one that absolutely requires more sodium. A lot more sodium. [..] If you’ve got the brutal headaches that some people get when starting on a low-carb diet, add sodium. And drink extra water."

Good luck and kind regs from // Amsterdam //, Holland,

  9. Good job keeping to Primal eating!! There are definitely a lot of benefits that outweigh the temporary cons. The first week or two are definitely the hardest but there are so many positives to staying on track! Keep up the great work and I look forward to your future posts =)

  10. Keep it up! That is AWESOME that you haven't slipped once. That sort of dedication builds confidence. At some point your mindset will begin to change. I found that after about a month or so, I would look at the things I used to eat and think "yech". Part of it was because of the technical knowledge I had gained through study that told me the reasons why this or that was bad and exactly what it does to the body; the other part I think was just habit. I had refused those foods for so long that over a period of time I had retrained my mind to view it differently.

Anyway, I only mention it to give you hope that one day soon you will look at those things you used to love so much and think "yech". Heh heh!

Oh jeez; I'm beginning to sound like an Anthony Robbins seminar.

  11. I just bookmarked your blog. I love how seriously you are taking this and can't wait to hear the results. I'm 18 months primal and in the best shape of my life. I didn't go through the difficulty you are going through in the beginning, so I will keep reading in hopes that in the end you have the great result that I (and so many others) have had! Good luck!

  12. I'm hoping people don't use this just to get access to Tom. He pointed me here. I really do like food and I happen to be Roman Catholic.
